Statement

Barça - Madrid, 2007.

To make this project, we traveled to one of the highest mountains of Rabinal, Baja Verapaz, Guatemala, about 2000 meters above the sea level and about 5 hours from the capital, we visited an indigenous community called, “plan de Sanchez”, after that we impromptu a football game between students, and then we planed to make some portraits in which each dressed the team’s shirts of their choice in order to find out which team, Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, has more admirers in this place.
Football has become a global phenomenon that permeates all spheres of society and culture, shirts of European Football teams, are very popular in unsuspected regions of the Central American countries and although they are often seen using expensive among the poorest sectors of society.
It is curious that in Guatemala and El Salvador there are more fervor for the Spain football league than the local football league, it seems, are a new fashion product of the mass media and marketing, a kind of identification with the new heroes or icons of contemporary society, a new kind of conquest.
